Test Picture - me bald Posted by Hello

The bitch is back

Well, after a week of bliss, I'm back in the doghouse.

Here's how it happened.

In the midst of the mad rush to go out of the country for the month, she says "Oh, and take those books back to the library." I agree, and continue with the process of helping them get ready to leave. No, I didn't write it down. The cleaning crew comes in the next day, and the basket of books gets covered by a blanket.

Flash forward to Friday, about five weeks later. We get a note from the library, something about a book being overdue. I go looking for the book, and find it. Along with twenty (that's twenty!) of its siblings. Oops.

I hurry to the library, but since it is Friday, they close early. Damn.

Saturday afternoon, I get to the library, get the books in. The damage? $52.40 Ouch, but I guess it could have been worse. They don't take credit cards, and I don't have a checkbook or the cash. I can pay next time I am in.

Now it's the following Tuesday afternoon, about 3:30. We have dinner plans with friends at 6:00. I get The Call at work, on my cell phone. Yes, I forgot. Yes, I am irresponsible. No one is going to dinner. She hangs up.

I call up my friends, tell them we can't make it. He is irritated, she is furious.

I stay at work late, go to the gym, come home (9:00) to find the doors are all locked. Yes, even the door between the garage and the house.

She's locked in the bedroom. Hmmm... better not to disturb that hornet's nest.

I get something to eat, play on the XBox for a few hours, head to the guest bedroom. Which is locked. All of the bedrooms are locked. I guess that's her way of trying to make me sleep on the sofa.

Unlock the guest bedroom, grab a box fan from another room, lock the door back, and sleep. No sign of her in the morning, and no calls from her at all.

End of story.

However, this kind of thing is typical and brings to mind several points about her.
1) it is a cardinal sin to her that I am unreliable
2) she values money above nearly everything else
3) she is not happy unless she is mad at me

Let me look at number 2 for a minute. How much "happiness value" is in $52.40? Is it really worth making 2 people angry for probably 3 days as well as pissing off your friends and straining that relationship? Perhaps I'm not looking at the bigger picture. Maybe it's more about the reliability thing.

The thing about that is that I am much more reliable that when we first met. Any minor slipup these days is cause for punishment.

It's all quite frustrating.
